Cleansing Is Contagious

Once in a while, I'll get all pumped up to do a detox.  And every time, without fail, everyone I tell wants to do one as well.  Apparently everyone secretly desires a squeaky clean colon...they just need someone to spark the idea.
My detox wasn't too crazy, and I opted to ingest some avocado and coconut because I wasn't doing this to lose weight, and I also didn't want to keel over with a patient on the table.  Days one and two SUCKED.  I was tired, cranky, and my head was throbbing.

Phone Manner

I really dislike talking on the phone, but I don't think it shows. I can never figure out to end a conversation without seeming abrupt, so ending my calls seems to take a loooonnng time...but I try my best to be polite, courteous, and succinct.  I grew up in a family of phone-shy people, so I was always the one who had to deal with making and taking calls.  Through the years, I have honed my phone skills to the point where I think I sound fairly professional, even when answering my personal line.

Referral

As you all know, when I find someone or something that I like, I tend to talk about it.  A lot.  If you are in the Foxboro, MA area and looking for a mental health counselor, I highly recommend this business:

Be sure to check out her website!

Pain Sucks

As a child, I wasn't very active.  I lived in fear of dodgeball, I despised running, and to this day I still don't know whether I throw with my left or right hand.  As a result, I didn't suffer many of the injuries that plagued the athletic kids; I never broke or twisted anything, and was fortunate enough to never need hospitalization.  My most painful memory is dropping an xylophone on my toe.  It hurt like hell, but I wouldn't exactly call it a devastating event.

Yesterday's Events

Yesterday was my first time watching the Boston Marathon.  Despite the fact that I've been living in this area for years, I simply never ventured out to see it first-hand.  Too much traffic, too much crowding.  Yesterday, though, I headed out there to watch a friend of mine run the race.
The sun had been peeking in and out of the clouds all day, deliberating over whether to show its full face.  When I arrived on Commonwealth Rd, however, it was clear and sunny.

Transitions and Upheaval

I don't know what it is about this year, but it seems to be a time of massive transition and upheaval...for everyone else but me, that is.  I'm generally used to being in a constant state of flux, but 2013 has me putting along here in the office, settled and content-at least for now.
I can't say the same for my patients.  Holy malcontent!  There are a lot of people out there who hate...and I mean HATE...their lifestyles, their relationships, their jobs.

Staying Connected

Apparently, I am an old, old hag.  I'm so old that I can barely get out of my chair without groaning and creaking.  I'm so old that I remember what it was like to dial a rotary phone.  I'm so old that this week I asked two separate people questions about tape recorders and VCRs.
I'm so old that I can actually remember what it was like to get away with things. I'm so old that there was once a time when I actually avoided punishment by explaining to my mom that there was no possible way for me to contact her to let her know why I was going to miss my curfew.

Fighting Yelp

As a business owner, I know all too well how Yelp (and other online review sites) can be a double-edged sword.  Yes, many clients have found me through Yelp, which is great.  Unfortunately, reviews tend to disappear if they are not written by those who post frequently.  So far, I haven't had any disgruntled clients that felt the need to complain, and I'm hoping that this never happens.  Still, you can't make everyone happy (although I try.)  At some point, I suppose it is inevitable that I am due for some (hopefully) constructive criticism.

Building A Client Base With Online Couponing

When I started my practice, I spent long hours waiting for clients to call and schedule.  Why wouldn't they?  I had a beautiful space, I was good at what I did, and I had a huge sign outside announced that I had arrived.
I soon realized that drawing in clients takes more than simply having a place for them.  Small biz owners need to be proactive.  Although I was doing my part by passing out business cards and leaving information everywhere I could think of, let's face it: most people go online to find everything these days.

In The Rearview Mirror

This may not speak well of me as a driver, but I very rarely check the rearview.  Actually, I don't look in my side mirrors too often, either.  I just assume that everything is as it should be in the land behind me.  Of course, I do occasionally take a peek while I'm trying to change lanes on the highway, but other than that, I am completely consumed with what is up ahead.
I remember driving somewhere with a date a few years back, and listening to him complain about the poor positioning of my rearview.
