When I started this blog, it was mostly to add a little something extra to my website. Let's face it, getting your site noticed isn't easy. There are millions of sites out there, and in order for people to find you, you need to stand out somehow. One way to stand out is to host a blog, which will hopefully bring in some readers and improve your search ranking. That was my initial reason. But then, it started to blossom. Several friends read my first few articles, and they all said the same thing: the writing was decent, but the blog didn't reflect my voice at all. |

Despite my fascination with the esoteric, I've never been really impressed with astrology. To be fair, I've never visited an a professional astrologer-most of my opinions have been formed after reading books about my sign. As I've said before, I try to keep both my eyes and mind open. I am open to the possibility of anything, but you're still going to have to prove it to me before I buy into it. I'm a Scorpio, and apparently this is completely obvious to everyone-after they ask what sign I am. |

Although I'm extremely passionate about what I do, I tend to stay cool and collected about most issues in life. I hate having people enforce their opinions on me, and so I try not to do this to others. As long as you are doing no harm to others (or to yourself), live your life, I say! I think people are sometimes thrown off by my refusal to get caught up in the issues that concern us all. I have no interest in debating politics, and if you have a varying opinion on abortion, I could care less. |

I've never been a great fan of Thanksgiving. I don't hate it, but I consider it to be the most blah and boring of holidays. If Thanksgiving was a television event, it would be a political speech...long, drawn-out, and sleep-inducing. Also, the weather usually sucks, turkey never tastes that good regardless of what you do to it, and once dinner is over...that's it. Time for a nap on the couch. But there is something to be said for a day of lethargy, with those you love (maybe. |

You know how, every once in a while, it's kind of fun to sit back and wallow in past miseries? I'm not talking about the fresh stuff; I mean those old hurts and regrets that scabbed over and healed long ago. I'm feeling a bit introspective today, so I opened up my old LiveJournal page and read up during the long gap between patients. Oh, the angst! Then again, who fills their diary with vapid prose about all the good stuff going on in their lives? Dairies are for venting. |

There is a woman in
the office next door who refers to me as a witch. I’m not offended by this, because she means
it in the nicest way possible. She
really believes that I possess magical powers. I’ve told her, time and again, that I am not
a witch. I’m just an acupuncturist. She simply can't believe, though, that I can touch her wrist and give her all sorts of information about her digestion, sleep, and stress. Or, that I can press on a spot in her hand and make her back pain disappear. |

Finally, an acupuncture-related post! I know, it's been too long. Before I begin, I should add that those of you planning to travel over the holidays should really schedule a visit with me as a proactive measure for jet-lag. As you all know, I get treatments on a regular basis, and even I was surprised at how well I held up over vacation. No jet-lag at all after two particularly long and uncomfortable flights; now I just need to get a treatment for the pain in my ass caused by sitting for 10 hours on a plane seat that I firmly believe was filled with rocks. |

As my loyal blog followers know, I've spent the last two weeks in Spain, swilling Rioja and eating tapas. It was quite the experience, and I even managed to squeeze in some acupuncture treatments! Best of all, my trip to VaughanTown was not some sort diabolical plan to force me into slavery, but a legitimate program where I met lots of great people from all over the world. Some background: VaughanTown is an immersion program where Spaniards who are trying to learn English spend a week talking to English-speakers from all over the world. |

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Puerta de Gredos for a week of cultural immersion, followed by a few days of hanging out in Barcelona. I'm always up for new travel ideas, and a friend of mine discovered this program in Spain, which is called VaughanTown. There is an application process, and once you are accepted, you get to spend the week partying with Spanish businesspeople who want to perfect their already-fluent English. Sounds a little shady, right? I thought so at first. |

Sorry I've been away, faithful readers. It's been a crazy week: lots of new patients, lots of procrastinating with packing...there simply aren't enough minutes in the day. And I'm sad to say that you will have to live without your daily dose of this blog for the next two weeks, since I will be in Spain. I will try to update when I can, but I can't make any promises. I recently wrote a post about birthdays, and how we should use them wisely. Rather than lamenting another year gone by, we should take some time on this day to appreciate how far we have come, and set goals for where we want to be at our next birthday. |
